Vistage, YPO, EO: the CEO peer groups compared
The three big peer networks are not competitors so much as three different filters. The filter is the product, and it is the thing to compare first.
The three big peer networks are not competitors so much as three different filters. The filter is the product, and it is the thing to compare first.
All three sell the same underlying thing: a room of people who carry comparable weight and have no stake in your answer. What separates them is who they let in and how the room is run. Here is what each one publishes.
| Who can join | The room | Rhythm | Published cost | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vistage | No age limit. CEO groups generally guide toward US$5M+ revenue; small-business groups start closer to US$1M. | 12 to 16 members from non-competing industries, convened by a paid Chair. | One full day a month, typically eight to nine hours, plus a monthly one-to-one with the Chair. | Membership fee, set locally. |
| YPO | Under 45 at joining. 50 full-time employees, or 15+ with at least US$2.75M of employee compensation. Revenue thresholds by company type, US$16M for sales, service and manufacturing. | Chapters, with forums of roughly eight to ten members. | Forum monthly, plus chapter and global events. | Around US$4,790 a year plus initiation and local chapter dues. |
| EO | Owner, founder or majority shareholder of a business with at least US$1M revenue in the last fiscal year. Venture-backed route: US$2M privately raised or US$5M publicly, plus ten employees. | Chapters, with forums of around eight, member-led rather than Chair-led. | Forum monthly, plus chapter events. | US$1,900 global dues plus a one-off US$1,000 initiation, before chapter dues. |
| Five Peers | No threshold. It is not a room of people. | Five reasoning methods, composed for what you do not do. | Convened per decision, in the week it is due. | Not on sale yet; access opens one board at a time. |
Criteria as published by each network and read on 28 August 2026. Thresholds and dues change; check the source before you rely on them.
The thresholds look like snobbery and are mostly mechanics. A room only works if nobody in it is quietly out of their depth, and revenue is the crude proxy everyone uses for that. YPO's age rule does something different: it keeps the room at a similar career stage, which matters more than size for the questions people bring.
You are not buying a programme. You are buying the other eleven people, and the rule that decides who they are.
Vistage puts a paid Chair at the centre: they protect the airtime, run the process, and coach you one to one. That is real value, and it is also a centre. EO forums are member-led, which removes the centre and puts the quality entirely on the members and the protocol they keep. Neither is better in the abstract. One is more reliable, the other is more equal.

Five Peers editorial note. Criteria and dues are those published by Vistage, YPO and EO, read on 28 August 2026. We hold no affiliation with any of them.
No threshold, no monthly day: five seats convened on the decision you are carrying this week.
