The AI executive coach: what it can and cannot be

Coaching is a relationship built on being known over time and being asked questions you would avoid. One of those is reproducible in software and the other is not.

Can AI replace an executive coach? Not on the parts that depend on a human relationship: accountability that costs something socially, reading what you are avoiding, and trust built over years. It can be available on demand, ask consistently uncomfortable questions, and remember every previous conversation precisely.

Worth separating what a coach does, because the answer differs by component.

Not reproducible

Reproducible, sometimes better

Software cannot make you feel accountable. It can make sure the question gets asked.

The framing that avoids disappointment

If you want to change how you operate, that is coaching and it needs a person. If you want the specific call in front of you worked properly, that is a different job, and it is the one a method can do at four in the afternoon on a Tuesday.

Not coaching. The call in front of you, worked properly.
