What a peer circle is, and what it is not

A peer circle is a small, closed group of people of comparable standing who meet regularly, over time, to help one another decide. The mechanism is not new: it has structured leadership organisations around the world for decades. What makes it work comes down to four conditions.

The four conditions of a real circle

• Small and stable. Five or six people, always the same. Repetition builds trust, and trust drops the masks.
• Comparable calibre. Weights of responsibility of the same order, so no one dominates and no one is drowned out.
• No crossed interests. No competitors, no client-supplier relationship, no one selling anything at the table.
• A held rhythm and confidentiality. A regular meeting, an absolute rule of discretion. Without a frame, a circle dissolves.

What a peer circle is not

• Not a network. You do not come for clients or contacts. The object is the decision, not business development.
• Not an open community. Five hundred members is no longer a circle, it is an audience you disappear into.
• Not automatic matching. An algorithm pairs profiles; it does not vouch for the rightness of a table. Composing by hand is what creates the value.
• Not advice in disguise. The circle illuminates, it does not prescribe. No one lectures; each person leaves and decides alone.

A circle is only worth the matching of its five. Everything else follows from that.
